Overview

Techny Land Development is home to Crate and Barrel's corporate headquarters, luxury townhomes and condominiums and Chicagoland's flagship Whole Foods store. It is a mixed-use property featuring residential, retail, commercial and recreational developments designed to complement each other and maintain the highest standards for quality and compatibility with the community. Owned by the Society of the Divine Word, Techny Land Development has leased more than 400 acres for development in Northbrook, Illinois, twenty-five miles north of downtown Chicago.

Introduction

The Society of the Divine Word (SVD), an international order of Roman Catholic priests and brothers, first settled this land in 1899. Since then, it has been an anchor for the Order's missionary work in over 60 countries on six continents. Throughout most of the 20th century, the Society cultivated the land, providing food for the members of the Order, the seminarians who studied at Techny, and the students who attended the primary school there. It also provided much-needed income for the Society. Today, the Society continues to use the land to support its work throughout the world, leasing the land to developers to construct their respective residential, retail, commercial and recreational projects.
